China has one of the world's fast-growing economies. Its tradition of valuing education and the rapid development of modern industries are strong attractions for the rest of the world to engage with China.
- Research
- McCormick faculty groups are actively involved in diverse research with Chinese colleagues. The school collaborates with Northwestern Polytechnical University (NWPU) in Xian on the Joint Institute for Engineering Design and Simulations (EDS), which furthers state-of-the-art mechanical design. Joint projects have been established over the years with other Chinese institutions and universities as well, including:
- Beijing University
- Chinese Academy of Sciences
- Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics
- Fudan University
- Harbin Institute of Technology
- Shanghai Jiao Tong University
- Tsinghua University
- Xian Institute of Technology
- Zhejiang University
Several McCormick faculty members play leadership roles in institutions and agencies in China as members of advisory committees and/or consultants. For example:- Professor Harold Kung is on the external scientific advisory board of the State Key Laboratory of Catalysis at the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics.
- Professor Wing Kam Liu serves as the vice president of the International Chinese Association for Computational Mechanics.
- Professor Yonggang Huang is on the scientific advisory board of the State Key Laboratory of Failure Mechanics at Tsinghua University.
- Education
- Many McCormick faculty members accept visiting students from China. Chinese students receiving government or institutional funds for overseas studies may contact McCormick faculty in their areas of interest about conducting research at McCormick.
- Industrial Outreach and Internships
- McCormick interactions with Chinese industries include sponsored research, consulting and collaborative opportunities, undergraduate and graduate internships, and active recruiting.
- Information for American Students
- Several Chinese universities, institutions, and industries encourage internships, short visits, and related educational and research activities.
- Information for Students and Visitors from China
- McCormick welcomes undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral applications for study and research at Northwestern. Postdoctoral appointments are made by specific faculty and the Office for Research; graduate admissions by the respective departments and the Graduate School; and undergraduate admissions by the Office of Admission.
- Several organizations welcome students and other visitors from China and make their stays here comfortable.
